Made in Milan Int’l Film Society consegna per la prima volta il Cavallo di Leonardo alla carriera nella capitale del cinema. Sarà Pietro Scalia, 2 volte premio Oscar, a ricevere la prestigiosa statuetta milanese!

Quest’anno il Premio alla Carriera MIFF Awards 2012, verrà assegnato al 2 volte premio Oscar Pietro Scalia.

Pietro Scalia, nato a Catania il 17 marzo 1960 e pluripremiato talento del montaggio con due Oscar (JFK nel 1992 e Black Hawk Down nel 2002), due Nomination (Genio Ribelle nel 1998 ed Il Gladiatore nel 2002) e molti altri grandi film a suo attivo (Hannibal, American Gangster, Prometheus …), al momento a Londra per il nuovo film dal cast stellare di Ridely Scott, The Counselor, con Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Javer Bardem e Penelope Cruz, sará all’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Los Angeles il 27 ottobre, per ricevere il Cavallo di Leonardo Da Vinci alla carriera.

“Non potevamo inaugurare la statuetta leonardesca alla carriera in territorio hollywoodiano con un nome migliore e in un luogo più adatto. Pietro è un’eccellenza italiana con cui i più grandi cineasti internazionali ambiscono a collaborare, e l’Istituto è baluardo della cultura italiana nella capitale del cinema!” dichiara Andrea Galante, Presidente della film society milanese (MIMIFS) e direttore di MIFF Awards. E Pietro Scalia risponde: “Una statuetta che celebra una delle più grandi menti della storia, un genio visionario che creava pre-montaggi delle sue visioni annotando come un bambino ogni sua intuizione, per poi ricomporre le sue idee nell’opera esecutiva. Sembra che il prodigio di Vinci abbia anticipato un po’ anche il cinema, ed è lodevole che Milano ne abbia fatto un motivo di creatività e immaginazione per il cinema indipendente. Sono onorato di ricevere un premio italiano così prestigioso a Los Angeles, la mia seconda patria.”

Nella stessa serata, a cui parteciperà il Console Generale di Los Angeles Giuseppe Perrone, verrà proiettato anche il film di denuncia Big Boys Gone Bananas ! che dopo essere stato proiettato a Sundance, a maggio vinse due premi assoluti (Miglior Film e Miglior Documentario) al festival milanese.

Los Angeles, California – Double Oscar winner Pietro Scalia will be presented the Made in Milan Int’l Film Society’ s Leonardo’s Horse Award on October 27th.

This year’s Los Angeles MIFF Awards will to be awarded to Pietro Scalia, honoring his career of work, the first time this award is to been given in Los Angeles. Pietro Scalia, born in Catania in 1960, won an Oscar for his editing of Oliver Stone’s JFK in 1992 and Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down in 2002. He was also Oscar Nominated for his work on Gus Van Sant’s Good Will Hunting in 1998 and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator in 2002. In addition to these films, his body of work includes many other well-known film credits including Hannibal, American Gangster and Prometheus. He is currently in London working on Ridley Scott’s new film The Counselor, featuring an all-star cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz. The MIFF Award will be presented at the Italian Institute of Culture in Los Angeles on October 27th.

“We couldn’t start with a better assignment and in a more suitable place. Peter is an Italian par excellence in his field and sought after by the world’s greatest international filmmakers. The Italian Institute is a flagpole of Italian culture located in the perfect place for cinema,” says Andrea Galante, President of the Milan film society (MIMIFS) and Director of the MIFF Awards. When apprised of his receiving the award, Peter Scalia responded: “An exclusive award that celebrates one of the greatest minds in history, an absolute genius who used to create his works making note of his visions and then rearranging his ideas for execution. It seems that the miracle of Vinci has now entered the cinema world as well, and it is truly commendable that Milan has honored him as an inspiration of creativity to independent movies. I am honored to receive this prestigious Italian award in Los Angeles, my second nest. ”

The Italian Consul in Los Angeles, Joseph Perrone, will attend the celebration night, which will include a screening of Fredrik Gertten’s documentary Big Boys Gone Bananas , the 2012 winner of the MIFF Awards in Milan for Best Picture and Best Documentary, and nominated also at Sundance this past May.

The MIFF Awards are a revolutionary format specially created to enhance and support international talent of independent cinema, and recognized with the precious Leonardo’s Horse. Celebrating it’s twelfth anniversary this year, the MIFF Awards take place in Milan in May of each year, with the winning filmmaker also celebrated in Los Angeles, hosted by the Italian Institute of Culture.
